This study outlines the importance of clupeoid fishes to striped bass winter production and also shows that predation may be exerting pressure on one of their dominant prey, the Atlantic menhaden.
These include, for instance, the late Peter Whitehead, author of an epic work called Clupeoid Fishes of the World, an apparently shameless womaniser, and the discoverer, in 1977, while pursuing 16th-century illustrations of the Brazilian herring in a library in Krakow, of a lost manuscript by Mozart.
