Evaluation of a triplex PCR assay to discriminate Staphylococcus aureus from coagulase-negative staphylococci and determine methicillin resistance from blood cultures.
Most of the telephones contained bacteria commonly found on the skin, such as coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) and coryneforms.
Of the 248 micro-organisms isolated, Staphylococcus was the most common genus encountered (131, 53%), in which coagulase-negative Staphylococcus accounted for 60% and Staphylococcus aureus 40%.
