The modest granny who worked as a code breaker from 1942 to 1945, added: "They were very brave people.
The author argues that their service as code breakers and combat interpreters hastened victory, and that their cross-cultural experience and linguistic knowledge facilitated the successful dismantling of the Japanese empire and the peaceful occupation of Japan.
There was one week when the young code breakers, all aged 10 and 11 in year six, were on an outdoor activity trip to Wales and younger children aged nine and 10 in year five had to stand in.
