A gifted draftsman and colourist, he gained international recognition from the 1940s onwards as a socially engaged artist, representing the Brazilian people in his large dramatic canvasses on social themes. But the NFB gave me the opportunity to make new masters of all of my films, so I went in with a colourist to make them visually perfect. While guzzling coffee, Guerin and Lalonde collaborate on the script, Froment pencils the characters and inks them before the package is sent off to a colourist in Winnipeg, then to a graphic artist in Barrie and finally on to their distributor Diamond Comics in New York for review. |
