A rod that transmits motion or power from one moving part to another, especially the rod connecting the crankshaft of a motor vehicle to a piston. Also called pitman.

To help manage the weight of the engine, engineers relied on racing-derived materials, including sand-cast aluminum crankcase and cylinder heads, titanium connecting rods and valves, and sand-cast magnesium engine covers.
The new plant will initially accommodate machining and assembly of transmissions and drive shafts as well as machining of crank shafts and connecting rods for engines.
Older 1000- and 1500-ton models had a single actuator on each side of the machine that operated the top and bottom nuts by means of connecting rods.
