Gels were stained with Coomassie brilliant blue R-250 or transferred to nitrocellulose membranes by using a Semiphor unit (Hoefer Scientific Instruments, San Francisco, CA, USA). After the image analysis, gels containing the additional load of proteins unlabeled proteins (gel 4; Figure 1) were stained with Colloidal Coomassie Brilliant Blue G (Acros Organics, Geel, Belgium) and matched to the fluorescent 2D-DIGE images. It is interesting to note that each of two renowned illustrations of Asante regalia taken by British troops contains a pectoral stripped of suspension materials; see "Ashantee golden ornaments and trophies," from the Illustrated London News, 1874; and "Trophies from Coomassie," The Graphic, April 11, 1874, reproduced in Fagg 1974:44-46, figs. |
