Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) managing director Neil Cloucher told AFP that following a countrywide power blackout, CEC had to import 60 megawatts of power from the DRC as well as rely on 70 megawatts that it had in the emergency generators.
The first, the Dar es Salaam Corridor, would link the port of Dar es Salaam with the Copperbelt, and the second, the North-South Corridor, will link the Copperbelt with the southern ports of South Africa.
The project, which is a pilot aid-for-trade programme, comprises the Dar es Salaam corridor linking the Dar es Salaam port in Tanzania with the Copperbelt in Zambia and DRCongo; and the another link via the Copperbelt to ports in South Africa.
