In the North East, the corn bunting, a bird of which numbers have fallen dramatically in recent years, has benefited from schemes specifically designed to provide the habitats it needs to survive, while the number of skylark chicks have increased by half thanks to farmers leaving small, undrilled patches of winter cereals on their land.
We would now like more golf clubs to look at what they can do for skylarks, woodlarks, corn buntings and all kinds of birds.
The last Irish countryside bird to go extinct was the corn bunting in the 1980s.
