Addressing the UN Security Council during a debate about the United Nations Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI), Alcide Djedje noted that the campaign for the much-delayed presidential election in his country would start November 15.
Cote d'Ivoire has passed through several incidents of somnambulism because it has been sheltered from facing the realities of existing as a country on its own two feet, dependent on its own initiatives and resources.
4) Given that much of the now copious literature on alcohol in Africa is focused on formerly British-held territory, attention to this state-sanctioned temperance movement in Cote d'Ivoire in the 1910s raises the possibility that it might tell us something about differing European approaches to the "alcohol problem" in colonial Africa.
