The country's most senior female judge, Lady Paton, was flanked by Lady Smith and Lady Dorrian for a civil appeal at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.
The move comes after a ruling in the Court of Session yesterday which said the elections were not "compliant" with European human rights laws.
