In late July or August they gather nagoonberries, cranberries, crowberries, blue-, black- and red-berries.
Crowberries, pembinas and others are also harvested late in fall or early in winter.
In the case of crowberries, this is indeed the middle of winter, after frosts have broken down some of the nutrients and neutralized some of the acid.
