Cary, always very complimentary about Stewart’s Academy Award-winning performance in it, pointed out a scene to me in which he and Stewart almost break up, and Cukor kept it in.
When Leigh arrived, the director George Cukor had already started shooting the famous scenes showing the burning of Atlanta, 30 firemen and the chiefs on permanent standby.
Aren't there any bitchy gay men left in Hollywood who could have done for the remake what Cukor did in 1939?
