UFOs, angels, vampires, cyborgs, virtual reality, demonic possession, magic, witchcraft, ghosts and encounters with the dead are some of the story lines that showcase mystery.
One might imagine that the characters could interact on a somewhat meaningful level, but no: All dialogue feels utterly synthetic -- cyborgs might speak this way, but humans don't.
Long an eerie theme in popular science fiction, the integration of humans with machines has often been presented as a harbinger of a soulless future, populated with flesh-and-metal cyborgs like RoboCops and Terminators.
