10,000BC (108 mins, 12A) Directed by Roland Emmerich; starring Steven Strait, Camilla Belle, Cliff Curtis, Joel Virgel, Omar Sharif I remember as a child being immensely excited by the prehistoric adventure yarn One Million BC, starring Victor Mature and Carole Landis (later to commit suicide after Rex Harrison ditched her), and the last picture with which DW Griffith was associated, if only marginally.
It's the last chapter in the tale of two movie greats - Metro Goldwyn Mayer and United Artists, founded in 1919 by Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and DW Griffith.
It's particularly sad that the demoralised citizens of the film's Passaic seem unaware that DW Griffith shot his earlier films in the area and that their town is the setting of a milestone documentary, The Passaic Textile Strike, produced by the Communist party in 1926.
