In his obituary of John Deedy (April 21), Peter Steinfels refers to one of Deedy's books, Auden as Didymus, which "delved into the columns that W.
A USA Weekend poll in 1987 that found that three-quarters of Americans believe they have an excellent or good chance of getting to heaven, prompted John Deedy to ask Catholics "Will you be in the hot seat on Judgment Day?
Through it all, John Deedy carried on in a style that matched militancy with good humor, a zeal for combat with personal gentleness, and a refusal to take it all too seriously.
