delayed entry program

A program under which an individual may enlist in a Reserve Component of a military service and specify a future reporting date for entry on active duty in the Active Component that would coincide with availability of training spaces and with personal plans such as high school graduation. Also called DEP. See also active duty; Reserve Components.

So the two made a deal: if Vega could drop 15-20 pounds in a few months, Nesselhauf would invest more time in helping him get into shape, and more importantly, help him attain his goal of losing close to 100 pounds to meet the requirement to join the Delayed Entry Program.
The 17-year-old wants to be a Navy airport firefighter and is currently in the delayed entry program with the United States Navy until he completes his Junior Navy ROTC program.
