Albahari's Bait is narrated by a nameless character who tries to defend himself against the demoniacism of history, against death, loss, and emptiness by writing a novel.
If narration cannot produce meanings that could redeem our existence, if it does not offer consoling constructions that may help us deal with the demoniacism of history, and if it does not even help us preserve in our memory our deceased loved ones, why would we then still try to narrate?
