Liver (Atlantic menhaden) and spleen (other fish species) tissues were sampled aseptically, homogenized in Butterfield's phosphate-buffered saline and plated on Middlebrook 7H10 agar (Difco, Detroit, MI, USA) supplemented with Bacto Middlebrook oleic acid, albumin, dextrose, catalase (Difco). They found that storing animal red cells in citrate dextrose adenine-1 for more than 21 days diminished the effectiveness of this treatment and did not acutely improve tissue oxygenation. Innovation is seldom without controversy, and the recycling industry has definitely seen its share of both in recent years, from single-stream recycling to polylactide acid (PLA) plastic, a new bio-based polymer made from corn dextrose, supplied by NatureWorks LLC, Minneapolis. |
