We learned early that the microprocessor speed (measured in megahertz) was far less important in database applications than the hard disk access time (measured in milliseconds).
The scanner also can be used for document scanning and in optical disk drives where it substantially increases the disk access time.
DOS keeps track of where everything is located, but one result is to slow disk access time considerably.
