The aetiology of diverticular disease, despite being an ancient malady, remains poorly characterised, and management continues to be taxing.
Do not use senna or other anthraquinones if you have hemorrhoids, blood vessel disease, stomach ulcers, diverticular disease, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, or any inflammatory bowel disease or gastrointestinal disorders.
If you have diverticular disease you should eat a highfibre diet but avoid foods such as popcorn, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds and nuts as they can get caught in the diverticulae, causing irritation.
