This is an astonishingly thorough treatment of the question concerning the divinization of the Roman Emperor in the West (France, Germany, Spain, Britian).
We are very fortunate in the Islamic world as far as this question is concerned in that we do not as yet have a Hindu type of divinization of matter based on the theory of evolution and turned into a religious idea as we find in such a person as a Sri Aurobindo, or a Teilhard Chardin in Catholicism.
While conceding that some Christians have wrongly despised the body, the pope shows why Christianity "in no way rejected eros as such; rather, it declared war on a warped and destructive form of it, because this counterfeit divinization of eros actually strips it of its dignity and dehumanizes it.
