Rhythm Road started in 2005, but descends from the Cold War-era Jazz Ambassadors program which sent legends including Dizzie Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington out to combat Soviet cultural influence.
A voice, that upon hearing, summons up visions of Harlem club nights with Dizzie Gillespie and Quincy Jones; a voice that hints of southern blues, cabaret, gospel and musical theatre all at the same time.
But to another generation of music fans, the Ellington will be forever associated with the sounds of the Duke, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald Count Basie, and Dizzie Gillespie, who all played in the cellar bar.
