Man·chu·ri·a  (mn-chr-)
A region of northeast China comprising the modern-day provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning. It was the homeland of the Manchu people who conquered China in the 17th century and was hotly contested by the Russians and the Japanese in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Chinese Communists gained control of the area in 1948.

According to the Dongbei Net, a government-run news website in China's northeast region, Changchun, the capital of Jilin province, has also said it will bid for the 2018 Games.

The group runs a mobile clinic in immigrant districts in the French capital to reach out to the 500 women, many of whom are from China's northeastern Dongbei region which has been hard-hit by unemployment.
