Dubois (d -bwä ), (Marie) Eugène (François Thomas) 1858-1940. Dutch paleontologist who in 1891 discovered in Java a fossil hominid which he believed to be the so-called missing link between the apes and humans on the evolutionary ladder. He named it Pithecanthropus erectus, but it is now known as Homo erectus. |
