Dunant was horrified by the primitive medical services for the wounded and published his thoughts in 1862 in A Memory of Solferino.
The Henri Dunant Center in Geneva (named after the founder of the Red Cross) mediated the latest peace talks, as it had those leading up to the previous, abortive, agreement.
