today announced that Elizabeth General Medical Center (EGMC), a large community hospital with over 560 acute-care beds, has implemented a hospital-wide Intranet solution developed by Siemens and based on the SilverStream Application Server, that enables EGMC to link disparate information systems into one easily-accessible application.
EGMC, like hospitals everywhere, was inundated with information --thousands of gigabytes of information about patients and their treatments, financial and administrative details, and laboratory and pharmacy records.
To alleviate this payment backlog and provide timely access to patient records and reports, EGMC decided to deploy an Intranet system.
Through built-in ODBC, JDBC, and legacy connections, the intranet solution connects with all the existing EGMC systems.
Sonty estimates that, because the Intranet provides hospital employees with rapid access to a diverse array of detailed information, EGMC has already cut its payment backlog from four-years to two, while saving a conservative 10-15 minutes in information access time per worker, per day -- for a significant annual productivity savings each year.
EGMC, together with its consulting partner, Siemens Information and Communications Networks, developed and deployed the Intranet in two months.
