n.
A sensitive immunoassay that uses an enzyme linked to an antibody or antigen as a marker for the detection of a specific protein, especially an antigen or antibody. It is often used as a diagnostic test to determine exposure to a particular infectious agent, such as the AIDS virus, by identifying antibodies present in a blood sample.

The IgG and IgM ELISA results for hantavirus were positive in both acute- and convalescent-phase serum samples.
The researchers, who are among the first to employ ELISA to test environmental samples for antibiotics, say the assay is as sensitive as LC-MS for detecting target compounds in parts per billion, but is quicker, easier, and less expensive ($5-15 per sample, compared to about $150 for LC-MS, including sample preparation and instrumentation).
