Fish exposed as embryos or hatchlings to trace concentrations of the antidepressant venlafaxine, marketed as Effexor, didn't react as quickly as normal to stimuli signaling a possible predator.
Recent research by a team at Henry Ford Hospital looked at the effectiveness of antidepressant Effexor (a common treatment option for breast cancer patients) and a staple of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture for handling these terribly uncomfortable and disruptive symptoms.
Unlike the 22 women on Effexor, the women receiving acupuncture only experienced mild weight gain, felt no side effects, and had improved energy, libido, and overall sense of wellbeing.
