Ehrlich (âr l k), Paul 1854-1915. German bacteriologist who was a pioneer in the study of the blood and the immune system, and in the development of drugs to fight specific disease-causing agents. He discovered a compound that was effective in combating sleeping sickness as well as a drug, called salvarsan, that cured syphilis. |
