The capital of Scotland, in the eastern part of the country on the Firth of Forth. The city grew up around a castle built in the 11th century by King Malcolm III, successor to Macbeth, and it became the capital of Scotland in 1437. Edinburgh later developed into an important literary and cultural center and is the site of an annual international festival of the arts. Population: 436,000.

El Festival de Edimburgo, el mayor festival de este tipo del mundo, se celebra cada año en agosto durante tres semanas, en las que el festival está presente en toda la ciudad. Además del programa oficial del festival, que ofrece actuaciones de artistas de categoría internacional, también hay una enorme cantidad de actividades artísticas de todo tipo, desde lo más tradicional hasta lo más extravagante, teatro, danza, música, artistas callejeros etc., a lo que se llama Fringe Festival, pues comenzó siendo un festival alternativo al oficial. Al mismo tiempo, se celebra un festival de jazz, otro de cine y una exhibición militar llamada Military Tattoo, que tiene lugar en el Castillo de Edimburgo.
