energy band
n
(Physics / Atomic Physics) Physics a range of energies associated with the quantum states of electrons in a crystalline solid. In a semiconductor or an insulator there is a valence band containing many states, most of which are occupied. Above this is a forbidden band with only a few isolated states caused by impurities. Above this is a conduction band containing many states most of which are empty. In a metal there is a continuous valence-conduction band See also energy gap

1) Gallium-nitride high electron-mobility transistors (GaN HEMT): A type of transistor with a wide band gap (semiconductors with broad energy bands where electrons cannot reside in the semiconductor's crystalline structure).
UV-visible absorption spectroscopy is one of the most important tools to study the optical absorption and particularly the absorption edge to obtain information about the band structure and optical energy band gap for both crystalline and amorphous materials (6).
2] (CISSe), have been developed most extensively because they allow tailoring of the energy band gap and other material properties to enhance device performance [1-4].
