New brickwork (both blue in the middle and reddish in the new mass to the east) properly follows the English bond of the original work (alternate rows of headers and stretchers).
But this is just Frampton's way of insisting on the elevated, philosophical status of his subject matter, even when he is talking about the technicalities of reinforced concrete or the difference between English bond and Flemish bond.
Though its unified form is very different from that of the house it hides behind, it is nevertheless built in a matching material: a red, hand-made Hampshire brick, of non-standard imperial size, laid in a modified English bond.
