Sediment-dwelling English sole living in and around Seattle's urban waterfront exhibit spawning anomalies that might compromise their reproductive success, a team of aquatic biologists finds. The researchers compared DNA extracted from the gills of English sole in the Duwamish River (which flows into the sound through a heavily industrialized area in south Seattle) to DNA taken from fish in the relatively clean Quartermaster Harbor. The Moana's restaurant has long since ditched the English sole that was served at its opening, offering instead island chicken, local prawns, plus Hawaiian snapper, mahi mahi, opah, ahi, moi and Pacific salmon. |
