Erysimum cheiri comes from southern Europe but there are many other, less well-known, species from Africa, Asia and America, worth seeking out for other qualities such as extra-long flowering periods and variegated leaves.
Some of the best forms of the most commonly seen wallflower, Erysimum cheiri , are in the Bedder series, sometimes mixed (pictured) or in single colours such as Orange Bedder and Blood Red; the Fair Lady series of pastel shades; Fire King, orange-red; Harlequin in dazzling mixed hues; and Harpur Crewe, rich yellow.
