Given the rampant development during the boom, many communities where the USDA loans are available aren't technically "rural" anymore--and include exurbs near big cities.
That means promoting cities as the backbone of regional growth by not only solving the problems in our cities, but seizing the opportunities in our growing suburbs, exurbs, and metropolitan areas.
Having braved the endless expanse of Northern Virginia’s barren exurbs, I realize how lucky I am to have grown up in a neighborhood that wasn’t strip-mined into existence.
