I tell you to your face I have filled the false position more creditably than you could have filled the true one, and I mean to keep it.
But as it always happened that such reflections impelled me, as though purposely, to put myself into a false position, I went in.
And for the first time the idea clearly presented itself that it was essential to put an end to this false position, and the sooner the better.
