1. Anatomy A small opening, especially either of two windowlike apertures in the medial wall of the middle ear.
2. The opening in a bone made by surgical fenestration.
3. Zoology A transparent spot or marking, as on the wing of a moth or butterfly.
4. Architecture A windowlike opening.

This lithofacies pinches out northward to a feather edge just south of the center of the outcrop between strata assigned to the Fenestral Lithofacies.
Fenestral otosclerosis causes a progressive conductive hearing loss, although findings on otoscopic examination will be normal; two-thirds of such patients have tinnitus during the early course of their disease.
In the limestones, pressure solution has resulted in the formation of stylolites (Figure 4D), while fenestral porosity (Figure 3C) formed as a result of the decay of organic material.
