By the time of the First Lateran Council (1123), the assembled churchmen were able to agree that vows taken for the defence of either Spain or the Holy Land should be equally binding.
As for celibacy, in 1123 the first Lateran Council once again forbade priests to marry while those who had wives were told to leave them.
