The floodplain at Preston Farm is currently defended with a floodbank and this will be abandoned, allowing the land to inundate naturally from the Tees during periods of heavy rainfall and high flows.
It confirms that floodbanks were submerged due to the severe amount of rainfall and that the low-lying nature of the land added to the severity of the flooding.
Where farmers want to repair floodbanks they will need Environment Agency consent.
