| Representatives of ministries of agriculture, education and health, as well as international agencies, non-governmental organizations and the private sector, attended the conference, which is part of a global partnership launched at the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to eradicate poverty and hunger. In the latest sign of the country's crisis, the World Food Program and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations warned on Monday that ``the food supply is becoming increasingly desperate'' in North Korea, and that without emergency food imports, ``the consequences are likely to be devastating for large segments of the population. AGORA is a programme of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in collaboration with major scientific publishers, Cornell University, Mann Library and the World Health Organization (WHO). |
