| The modern Georgia Basin, in part, overlaps two older sedimentary basins; a Late Cretaceous foreland basin preserved as the Nanaimo Group (Mustard, 1994; Mustard and Rouse, 1994; England and Bustin, 1998) and an early Tertiary non-marine basin dominated by the sedimentary rocks of the Chuckanut Formation (Johnson, 1984; Mustard and Rouse, 1994). The company and its partners were officially awarded PPL 192 (formerly PPL 178) in the western foreland basin in Jan. Out of the fifteen research papers, five deal with fold-thrust belts and associated intramontane or piggyback basins, three papers focus on foreland basins, three on rift and/or graben/half-graben basins, two concentrate on intracratonic basins, one presents the case study of a divergent continental margin, and one other deals with a fore-arc basin. |
