Not far away, at Foster Dam and Lake, a flock of Barrow's Goldeneye - a diving duck known for its purplish gloss - regularly winters just below Foster Dam, sometimes with the Common Goldeneye.
Traps at Foster Dam, Dexter Dam and Minto Pond will each annually transport more migratory fish in one peak week of fish movement than can be expected to arrive at Trail Bridge Dam in an entire year.
A few steelhead are being taken below Foster Dam on the South Santiam.
