Fraser River

Fraser River
A river of British Columbia, Canada, flowing about 1,368 km (850 mi) from the Rocky Mountains near the Alberta boundary to the Strait of Georgia at Vancouver. It was discovered by Sir Alexander Mackenzie in 1793 and named later for the navigator Simon Fraser.

During the Olympia interglacial period most of the basin was filled with sediment and then subsequently excavated during the Fraser Glaciation, except for a group of isolated banks; the southern basin was partially filled by the prograding Fraser River Delta during the Holocene.
South of downtown Vancouver with its soaring high-rises and snow-capped mountains, the city peters out into the murky flatlands and flood plain of the Fraser river delta.
