There are a wide range of choices including International and French Baccalaureates, Advanced Placement and British O and A levels.
France's Education Minister Xavier Darcos said in an interview with Parisien Dimanche newspaper on Sunday he wanted the French baccalaureate, the country's high school diploma, to be "valued" by students.
The new diploma is likely to be something like the International Baccalaureate, which was based on the French Baccalaureate, which covers a range of subjects although pupils can specify a general slant to their studies, such as languages, science, etc .
