Summary: Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg is facing a test of his authority as frontbenchers criticise his plans for public spending cuts.
But there have been claims that senior Tory frontbenchers favour fundamental reform and have close links with US politicians who have condemned the NHS as "evil" and "Orwellian".
It was reported that nine Cabinet ministers, including Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, and more than 30 other frontbenchers claimed the cost of tax advice on their expenses.
