gamma ray burst
Intense high-energy electromagnetic radiation, lasting between a fraction of a second and several minutes, emanating from distant regions of the universe. Recent theory suggests that they result from supernova explosions.

Bromm and Loeb calculate that the first 15 percent of stars that formed in the cosmos could be responsible for a significant fraction of all gamma ray bursts that may be observed from Earth.
The instruments will study cosmic phenomena such as gamma ray bursts, neutron stars, supernova remnants and distant galaxies fueled by super massive black holes at their centers.
Cosmic gamma ray bursts appear to originate in the proximity of neutron stars, but the sources have never been pinned down," says Gerald H.
