These include a design based upon the Indonesian Garuda bird but known in Ghana as "Bunch of Bananas" (see top row, third from left, and eight further panels); the "Sunburst," also known as "Target" (second row, first left, and two other panels); "Staff of Kingship" (top row, nineteenth from left, and bottom row, thirteenth from left); and "Alphabet" (fourth row, fourth and ninth from left). And so he, Helene, Margot, Tinka, Lulu, and her baby brother leave Java, traveling on a ship called Garuda, named after the man-bird who was the god Vishnu's steed. The national airline Garuda, now busy decommissioning planes, has in recent years needed to hire whole fleets of aircraft to convey pilgrims to Mecca. |
