Hansen's Genomics & Strain Development Department will use the new sequence along with the extensive database of existing lactic acid bacteria genomic sequences and metabolic reconstructions in Integrated Genomics' ERGO bioinformatics system to characterize and develop lactic acid bacteria for use in foods and other human health products.
Some of the microbes' unusual physiological abilities, inferred initially from genomic sequences taken from environmental samples, have been confirmed subsequently by detailed study of expressed proteins.
Visitors can also access BLAST for comparing genomic sequences and gene products, and a centralized registry of genomic clones, end sequences, mapping data, and distributor information.
