Spencer's neglect of till and moraines was particularly surprising, because Robert Bell, who in the 1870s became Spencer's closest professional friend, was a glacialist and had been one of the first geologists to map moraines (near Ottawa, published 1863 in the Geology of Canada).
Michigan State University Libraries maintains an archive of 1,100 letters written by Leverett, Taylor, Lane, Winchell, Chamberlin, and other glacialists, as well as the copies of the field notebooks for Michigan by Frank Leverett.
