Epiglottic asymmetry, taut-appearing epiglottic mucosa, a prominent median glossoepiglottic furrow, and a yellow epiglottis are physical findings that should raise suspicion of an epiglottic abscess and warrant the patient' s transfer to the operating room for airway management, endoscopic evaluation, and drainage.
